Editorial policy

This page describes how Orell Health produces what it publishes. It is written to be checked, so if the site does not live up to something on this page, that is a correction we want to hear about.

How an article is made

Articles are written by the Orell Health editorial team and then medically reviewed by a named clinician before publication. Both roles appear on every article, along with the date the review took place, so you can see who wrote a piece and who checked it.

What we source from

For benefits, tax, and coverage material, we work from primary documents: revenue procedures and publications from the Internal Revenue Service, guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the regulatory text itself. For health and lifestyle material, we work from published guidelines, systematic reviews, and expert consensus statements rather than single studies or press releases.

Where a number comes from a specific federal document, that document is the authority, not our summary of it. We would rather send you to the source than have you take our word for it.

Figures are tied to a year

Contribution limits, thresholds, and eligibility rules change. Every figure we publish is stated for a specific tax year or plan year, and it is labelled that way on the page so you can tell at a glance whether you are reading a current number. Our calculators carry the same labelling.

When the underlying rules change, we update the affected pages rather than leaving a stale figure in place with a new date on it. Annual limits are reviewed when the relevant agency publishes the following year’s numbers.

Corrections

We correct errors rather than quietly deleting them. If a factual error changes what a reader would reasonably do, we fix the text and say on the page what was wrong and when it was corrected. Minor fixes such as typography or a broken link are made without a note.

General information, not personalized advice

Everything here is general information. It is written without knowledge of your income, your coverage, your health, or your circumstances, and it cannot substitute for advice from a professional who has all of that in front of them. Our calculators produce estimates from the inputs you provide, not recommendations. The disclaimer sets this out in full.

Conflicts of interest

Our medical reviewer, Dr. Alice Whang, BDSc, is employed by Medit USA, a dental technology company, as Clinical Solutions Team Lead. We state that here rather than leaving you to find it, because it is the kind of affiliation that could bear on how you read what we publish.

Orell Health does not accept payment, free or loaned product, or any other consideration from Medit USA or from any other manufacturer in exchange for coverage. No manufacturer sees an article before it is published, and none has any say in what we cover or what we conclude.

On the topics where that affiliation is most material, we do not review, rank, compare, or recommend specific products at all. That covers intraoral scanning, digital impressions, aligner workflows, and dental technology products generally. If we ever change that position, the disclosure will appear inline in the affected articles and this section will be updated first.

We do not review, rank, or recommend health or dental products, devices, or equipment. Where we compare insurance plans or financial accounts, we describe how they work and what they cost rather than naming a best choice.

Independence

The site is supported by advertising, described in the privacy policy. Advertising is served by a third party and has no influence on what we cover or what we conclude. We do not sell editorial coverage.
